There is something special about seeing a big-name DJ performing in an intimate setting. On Saturday, March 7th, Gryffin performed at Premier Nightclub at the Borgata in Atlantic City. The night felt as though he had selected the music for the individual attendee – satisfying a personal hunger for his catchy music that no large concert venue could equally offer. Coming off the heels of his multi-city Gravity tour and the release of his debut studio album of the same name, the cozy setting of Premier Nightclub was refreshing. It was an excellent reflection of Gryffin‘s down-to-earth attitude that many DJs are missing these days as their music hits mainstream radio. In a statement on his Facebook page, Gryffin introduced his Gravity album as “uplifting emotional dance music” and that sentiment came across clearly in his set Saturday night.
Just a few minutes after 1am Gryffin took over the booth from opener DJ Nomad, and began his set with fan favorite “All You Need to Know.” After that, it was hit after hit as Gryffin played everything from Billie Eilish to old school Ingrosso. Literal music to a true house-head’s ears, the mashups and clips from songs like Axwell’s “In My Mind,” Ingrosso/Alesso’s “Lose My Mind,” and even the late Avicii’s “Levels” brought next-level energy to the crowd. The classics were punctuated with Gryffin‘s own hits, like “Bye Bye,” “Remember,” and “Body Back.” Everyone was singing along, including Gryffin himself, which gave the vibe that we were all enjoying this evening together, without the typical dichotomy of performer/audience. The floor was so packed that it was difficult to jump, but that didn’t stop anyone from dancing. Even the people hanging out on the perimeter of he club couldn’t stand still – Gryffin‘s set permeated the room, stronger than the drinks being poured.
If you missed him, he’ll be performing multiple times in Las Vegas at the Encore Beach Club. He won’t be back in New York until the Governor’s Ball on June 6th. See his tour schedule here.
