REVIEW: Maurice West at Melrose Ballroom

21 year old Dutch DJ/producer¬†Maurice West (Maurits Westveen) took over the turn-tables at Melrose Ballroom this past Saturday. Supported by huge DJ’s like W&W and Blasterjaxx this DJ might be young, but he’s definitely not new to the scene. Premiering his new remix of ‘Rhythm Of The Night’ by Corona, together with SaberZ, which will be released under W&W’s label ‘Mainstage Music’ he rang in the Chinese New Year with a bang. It was a packed club with great visuals, amazing sound system and Maurice with his insanely energetic presence he knew exactly how to hype up the crowd. With the combination of all off this this guy for sure has the potential to become very big and unique!

He started off the first half of his 2 hour set with some Bass-House, Big-Room and Euro-Dance. ‘Something Just Like This’ by the Chainsmokers got the crowd dancing and he made the set his own by throwing in some tunes that made us think of ‘Crazy Frog’ and ‘Mario Kart’; with that he really put his signature on his set. Classic tracks mixed with new tracks and interesting remixes made the crowd dance like there was no tomorrow.

After announcing the second half of his set and preparing the crowd for some harder beats he threw in W&W and Vini Vici’s ‘Chakra’ followed by some Hardstyle and Psy-Trance; we’re sure he created a solid following in NYC this night by doing this. Being a headliner for the first time in a New York City club he marked his territory and we hope to see this guy around a lot more here on the east coast.
