In a world of hype, fads and overnight success, Third Party has let the music do all the talking. Childhood friends turned accomplished studio outfit, a reassuring level of respect has met Jonnie Macaire and Harry Bass’s journey from the unsuspecting backdrop of Essex into the forefront of electronic music.
Committed to making every original cut as personal as possible, Third Party’s four-year rise has conjured some notably accomplished moments. Breakout offering “Release” was an essential first calling card onto dance floors worldwide. It opened the door to “Lights” alongside Steve Angello, “Feel” alongside national peers Cicada and their subsequent Ultra Music debut “Thank You,” with remix duties for Swedish House Mafia, Tiësto, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Sigma’s UK Number 1 ’ Nobody To Love’ sealing the deal on their universal appeal. Scaling Spotify playlists, the digital market and international crowds alike, 2014’s “Everyday of my Life” made for a landmark solo offering for the UK duo to date.
That precedent has played seamlessly onto club floors and festival line-ups across the continents. It’s made appearances at spots as diverse as Brixton Academy, Creamfields, Ministry of Sound, O2 Academy Leeds, XS and Liv a live reality of their ongoing success: high demand without the creative shortfall. The future is about taking full ownership of their sound on a global scale, leading with a seal of quality and showing where dance music can still be given a unique spin. Off the heels of their most prolific year to date, Third Party have set the bar reassuringly high for their future movements.
We had the opportunity to sit and chat with Third Party. Check it out below.
EDMNYC: How did you two meet?
Third Party: We first met at our high school, we both were on the football team and then both ended up doing the Music Tech course.
EDMNYC: Did you guys have musical backgrounds?
Third Party: Harry learned the drums and guitar at school and I was a rock star on the clarinet haha Neither of us really knew music theory, just the basics.
EDMNYC: Where was your first show?
Third Party: Our first show was for an 18th birthday party in our local town. Our first real show as Third Party was in Miami which was a pretty crazy start to our career.
EDMNYC: When was your big break?
Third Party: Our big break was when we signed our record ‘Release’ to Steve Angello’s label SIZE. Not long after it came out we were invited to meet his management company and they said he wanted to sign us to SIZE. It’s still a pretty unreal moment for us to look back on.
EDMNYC: Today the DJ scene is flooding with many artists. How does your music stand out from the rest?
Third Party: We like to think our music stands out because it mixes quite a few different musical inspirations. The main core of our sound is progressive house, but you could say there is a bit of everything in the productions. One of the main things we like to do is sample old vocals into our music. We really like the fusion and vibe they bring to the music that slick vocals just can’t bring!
EDMNYC: You recently collaborated with Martin Garrix on “Lions in the Wild.” How was collaborating with the #1 DJ?
Third Party: It was an awesome experience! Martin is such a great guy, so it was very easy and smooth to work with him on this track.
EDMNYC: Tell us a little bit about your tune “Live Forever.”
Third Party: Live Forever is a special song for us. Not only is it the lead single from our album, but we feel like it captures everything we try to be as Third Party – just great uplifting progressive house music for people to enjoy.
EDMNYC: It’s a new year and guys have your album coming out. Can you tell some more about the album and how it came to?
Third Party: Yes, we have our debut album ‘HOPE’ coming out today, February 24th, which we’re very excited about! It’s been in the works for about 9 months now. It’s been a tough, but very rewarding journey to get to this point and now we just can’t wait for everyone to hear it! We’re announcing an album tour very soon which includes a very special show for us. We’ve also created a new show concept called ‘The Stage” which we’re premiering in Liverpool on April 1st, we can’t talk too much about it, but its going to be big! We cant wait for everyone to see it. Maybe we’ll live stream the whole event for our US fans ☺.
Give a listen to “Live Forever” below and be sure to get Third Party’s album “HOPE.”
