social media
This past week at Point Blank we discussed Profile Building and Streaming Audio. From why you should raise your profile, to setting the tone, to what your online presence should consist of. Nowadays, people tend to judge just about everyone based off their online presence and you want to be sure that you’re doing it right. Especially if you want to become a top artist. On your social media presence, how many people do you know? How many people know you? How many people can you rely on to do things for you when you need them? These are fundamental questions that affect how everyone leads their lives everyday. Human society has relied for thousands of years on social interaction, and with the advent of the internet, it seems that connecting with people is easier than ever. And yet, it’s still a skill that needs to be developed over time. It

might seem that the more people who know you the better, but that’s not necessarily true. It’s great to be admired, celebrated, idolised even, but there are plenty of household names that are reviled. Which would you like to be? You can guide how you are thought of in the wider world by the quality of your work, how you appear to people from the ‘outside’ of your immediate social group and your interaction with other people, fans and colleagues alike. But can you steer people towards doing things that you need? Going into depth about assisting us to increase our awareness of ourselves and our work on the internet. You want your potential audience to find you easily, hear your work, like it and ultimately, with a bit of luck, spend money on you. Our profiles are our calling card to the world and we need to be sure that they work for us! Each section last week went into more detail about online profiles, content basics, podcasts, mix tapes, streaming audio, SoundCloud, Spotify, and Youtube. You may think that you know everything about all of this, but believe me, I certainly learned a few things that I did not know. I truly enjoyed last week’s class! Michelle for EDMNYC
