Review: Andrew Rayel at Lavo NY 10/24/14 by: Michelle Fetky and Adam Levine

Back in April, Andrew Rayel made his New York City debut at Cielo.  In August, he made his PachaNYC debut, and this past weekend he made his debut at Lavo.  Every show was completely sold out, and rightfully so.  For the past couple of years, Andrew Rayel has been a breath of fresh air for the Trance community, and EDM as a whole.  His signature style of Classical arrangement mixed with a classic Trance feel, all with new synths and sound, really set him apart from the rest of the pack, and garnered huge praise from Armin Van Buuren along with countless other huge DJs.

It was 11:30pm, and people started to slowly leak into Lavo on a dreary Saturday night.  The lighting from Lavo’s amazing lighting director, Joey Vera, really set the mood.  The opening DJ, Sam Pace, was already spinning and warming up the crowd in a great way.  The crowd hovered over the bar while getting their beverages and mingling.  A very anxious crowd waited for Andrew to take to the decks.  The lights rained down from the ceiling reflecting off the chandeliers, beaming from wall to wall and within an hour the tables were filled, and the dance floor was packed.

At exactly 1am, Rayel came on strong, dropping some great tunes including “Fair Game” by Cosmic Gate and Orjan Nilsen, “Here Tonight” by Dash Berlin, and Andrew’s own bomb “Dark Warrior.”  He had the crowd mesmerized immediately.  Paying homage to Dash Berlin was a theme throughout the night, as he dropped a handful of Dash’s crowd favorite tracks.  He absolutely rocked Lavo with his masterful mashups and transitions.  The crowd was jumping around and singling along the entire night.  One of our personal favorites was Andrew’s “One In A Million” feat. Jonathan Mendelson.  The crowd went nuts when Andrew dropped “Goodbye,” from his last studio album “Find Your Harmony.”  The music video for that song was actually filmed here in New York and incorporates some footage from his set at Pacha. Check it out below!  On top of all of the amazing current productions, Andrew dropped jaws with a few perfectly placed classics like “Adagio For Strings,” an “In and Out of Love” mashup, “Love Comes Again,” and a “Sun & Moon” mashup.  Speaking of Above & Beyond, Andrew also dropped “Blue Sky Action” from A & B’s brand new album.

If you have not seen Andrew Rayel spin, put him on your list because he is certainly a must see.  We hope to have him back in New York soon, and he just announced a brand new album entitled “Find Your Harmony 2015” which is slated for a November 28th release.  You can pre-order the new album here: FIND YOUR HARMONY 2015
