This Saturday, September 13th, Adam Beyer and some of his Drumcode counterparts will be landing on Governor’s Island for one memorable techno summer send-off. There will be no shortage of sharp and addictive bass lines courtesy of Harvey McKay, Sam Paganini, Bart Skills and of course, Beyer himself.
Hailing from the Swedish electronic music hub, Beyer took advantage of Stockholm’s emerging techno scene in the mid1990s and landed a job with Planet Rhythm records where he first encountered the likes of Jesper Dahlback and Joel Mull. The experimental techno tracks they created were the building blocks of the sound maintained by Beyer today. The Drumcode Label was established in 1996 with a forward-thinking musical vision, starting as a home for many core artists of the genre while also paving the way for the techno new-wavers of today, such as Joseph Capriati and Alan Fitzpatrick, who graced the decks of Output in Brooklyn together just under two weeks ago.
Beyer also heads two other labels with equally impressive artist repertoires. Truesoul shows the softer side of techno while Mad Eye pushes the genre to its. This weekend will mark the start of a Drumcode Records showcase around the globe, following the release of Beyer’s newest and aptly named 4-track EP, Teach Me. The title track made it onto Beatport’s Top 5 Techno chart with its progressive and hard-hitting sound.
Beyer’s weekly radio show “Drumcode Radio Live” is a staple for true techno fans, featuring fresh new mixes, artist profiles and sneak-peaks of new things coming our way on the label. We highly recommend checking it out on Soundcloud if you haven’t already.
Governor’s Island will be the place to get your fill of dark, pristine (and maybe a little creepy) techno beats this Saturday, so don’t miss out on the end-of-summer Drumcode Family party.
