Zane Lowe bagged another world exclusive tonight, opening his show with a show intro of another kind.  Having been invited down for a private playback in the studio with Axwell /\ Ingrosso this week in London, he decided to take the only piece of music he was allowed to play now, the intro to their new show, and open his BBC radio show with it.  He followed it up with the band’s free download they launched on Sunday, a previous classic they used to open the Swedish House Mafia shows with – “We Come We Rave We Love.” The band had announced it was time to clean out the closet before the new music came, and gave the much-coveted track away on their Soundcloud.

“I was lucky enough to go down to the studio this week, listen to a whole bunch of songs, some finished some almost there. It’s going to be incredible. Back out on the road, NYC Governor’s Ball and a handful of shows…its a whole new era for these two.”

So it’s now official. Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso are releasing an album under the moniker Axwell /\ Ingrosso. This will be their first ever artist album, as Swedish House Mafia never released a full album despite selling over 10 million records. Not hinting at the project at all until last week, it would appear the majority of the record is now ready and the release will be this year.

Axwell /\ Ingrosso will perform for the first time, including the new music, during their headline slot at Governor’s Ball in New York, NY, on June 8th, 2014

Solidifying their union, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso merged their Facebook pages to form a singular page for the band, a feat never done before after melting their feeds – even Calvin Harris was confused. This will erase each page’s individual history and begin again to house the new journey.

Much speculation has been swirling around, intensifying after their names appeared on the bill for this year’s Governor’s Ball and V Festival alongside headliners such as Vampire Weekend, Jack White and Justin Timberlake. The band is asking fans to sign up to be a part of the journey on their website, adding to the enigmatic messages. We are yet to see what this will bring. They will go on to headline The Light in Las Vegas and the Bravalla Festival in Sweden with Kanye West. Axwell /\ Ingrosso will also continue their residency at Ushuaia in Ibiza on Wednesdays from June 25 with their event concept, Departures.

Axwell /\ Ingrosso announce this project after the release of the acclaimed documentary Leave the World Behind. Directed by Christian Larson and executively produced by Jonas Akerlund the documentary achieved global number one status on iTunes. The film follows Swedish House Mafia’s “One Last Tour” and the group’s eventual break up. Having already been nominated for numerous awards — including two Grammys, and sold out huge festivals and arenas worldwide (including a SHM concert at Madison Square Garden in a record 9 minutes), Axwell /\ Ingrosso plan to bring things back around again to focus on the music in their heads and hearts.

Performing together as Axwell /\ Ingrosso in New York has special meaning for the duo, having been chosen to light the Empire State Building and, in 2012, throwing a Black Tie Rave in NY to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims, with 100 percent of the net proceeds going to relief efforts. The city honored them by turning the Empire State Building to blue and yellow, the colors of Sweden.

About Swedish House Mafia

Swedish House Mafia was a supergroup comprised of Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello, childhood friends who went on to have the fastest single to ever to reach Beatport at number one, get nominated for two Grammy’s, and see themselves sell one million concert tickets in one week. Swedish House Mafia achieved a BPI Gold Sales award in the United Kingdom and international chart success. Having announced their ‘One Last Tour’ in 2012, Swedish House Mafia went on to tour 36 cities racking up an impressive 56 shows over 5 months. They have won government Export Prizes in Sweden (also awarded to the likes of Abba), 4 International Dance Music Awards (with 7 nominations), won the “Best Swedish Act” award at the MTV European Ballz awards. They were nominated for 4 Billboard Music Awards, 2 World Music Awards and 2 Grammy’s. Their and their brand collaborations included Greyhound with Absolut, Volvo and Sony Ericsson. On the final leg of their farewell tour, they raised a million dollars for Hurricane Sandy at a Black Tie Rave in 2013 in New York City. The city honoured them by turning the Empire State blue and yellow, Sweden’s colours. The Swedish group stamped out the animosity once associated with popular dance music, setting a new precedent with such chart-topping endeavors and momentous live landmarks.
