Review: SEVAG w/ MATISSE & SADKO | 11/16 @ Mister East by Nora Kdiry

As I walked into Mister East in Roselle New Jersey on Saturday, November 16th I felt like I was walking into a club in Moscow. From the dancers behind the center bar dressed in all black with fur hats and high boots, to the bottle service girls who wore their white fuzzy hats and white body suits, Mister East really did their research and wanted to make the Russian duo Matisse and Sadko feel like they were home. From start to finish the night was a good night or as my Russian friends would say, Что а ночью, what a night!

Mister East had a pretty interesting layout. From the all exclusive feeling of the VIP on the second floor overlooking the dance floor to the number of VIP sections all around the aforementioned dance floor below, the club highlighted the big spenders from the club goers. The lights in the club were very green that night for Matisse and Sadko and they gave them complete control of the fog gun basically giving them a superhero like presence.

The amazing resident DJ at Mister East prepped the crowd with his amazing set. Sevag never disappoints and he is always bigger and better than his last performance. Here’s a little fun fact about Sevag, he had one of his mashups included in Thomas Gold’s podcast Fanfare episode 73, Promise Land & Junior Black VS. Ellie Goulding- Light The Noise (Sevag Area-201 mashup). Here are some of the tracks from Sevag’s set from that night:

Pirupa – Party Non Stop (Franky Rizardo Remix)

Jose Nunez & Antranig – Check This Out (Original Mix)

Mark Knight – Alright (Original Mix)

Prok & Fitch, The Cube Guys – Don’t Go (Original Club Mix)

After Sevag had M.E. rockin, it was time for the main event, the creme de la creme. Matisse and Sadko’s North American Tour came to an end right in our backyard. The Russian duo are seldom in this area so being able to see them on Saturday was definitely a treat. What could I possibly have to say about these two jokesters? There is a reason why I have been so drawn into house music. Each and every single mix may have some similarity, but it takes talented producers to really make it stand out. Matisse and Sadko clearly understand the craft of production and what it takes to make a track into a hit, a hit into a club banger, and a club banger into an anthem. They put on one of the shows that will forever have a permanent place in my memory and heart. Let me take you on a journey and help you paint this picture in your mind.

Each one of their tracks that they played was dirtier than the next, and just as I thought it couldn’t get any sexier, they dropped another sick track making every single person dance harder. Girls were shaking what their Mama gave them in their short dresses, mini skirts, wedges and high heels; nothing was stopping these ladies from having an amazing night. Here are some of the tracks that Matisse and Sadko brought to the table that night:

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike: Generation X

Nicky Romero & Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano Feat. Fast Eddie: S.O.T.U. (Original Mix)

Lupe Fiasco Feat. Ellie Foulding: Lightwork

M-3ox Feat. Heidrun: Beating of My Heart (Matisse & Sadko Radio Remix)

Eric Prydz: Every Day

Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl Feat. Georgi Kay: In My Mind (Axwell Radio Edit)

Erick Morillo & Eddie Thoneick Feat. Shawnee Taylor: Live Your Life

Edde Le Grand & Sultan+Ned Shepard: No Good (Extended Mix)

From this teaser list of tracks let me share my “Track Takeaway” from this night. These geniuses mixed Zedd’s new hit with Hailey Williams of Paramore “Stay The Night” and Jordy Dazz “Claymore”. This was a total mind blowing mashup. From start to finish I literally had goosebumps. The deep progressive vibe of this track and powerful vocals from Hailey Williams just blended so amazingly together. As I looked around the club to see other people’s reactions they were just as taken back as I was.

To sum up, my Saturday night was phenomenal. And just when I thought it was about to be over I got to sit with Matisse and Sadko and get some inside scoop for you guys. First and foremost they told me how amazing their tour was since they are rarely in the US. Their favorite venue was Sensation White, well no duh it’s only one of the best festivals around. Speaking of festivals, they have the Dallas Lights festival along with Kaskade and Nicky Romero, how awesome is that?! They weren’t able to tell me anything else, they’re keeping things top secret and you know what, they really should. They’re just that good. When they come back to the NYC area make sure to check them out and if you’re in NJ you really need to head over to Mister East and show some love to Sevag. Not only will you experience a pretty awesome venue, but you will have a new favorite DJ to add to your list.
