Review: Sultan + Ned Shepard along with Sevag at Mister East 11/02/13 by Nora Kdiry

Saturday, November 2nd was a night of epic proportions. It was my first time at Mister East in Roselle New Jersey and from the photos I saw online, the web site doesn’t do it justice. Walking through the chalkboard painted walls of the hall pushing through an abundance of people waiting to be serenaded by the Montreal based duo, Sultan+Ned Shepard, the anticipation of seeing my favorite DJ’s quickly grew stronger by the second. Flooding the club walls were the sweet sounds of of Sevag. This young, Jersey raised DJ/Producer knows how to get the crowd going.

Sevag is a DJ to pay close attention to. I got to pick his brain a little after his set and I have to say, Sevag is beyond dedicated to what he loves to do. He spends 14 hours a day working on new projects and nothing is stopping this Armenian Jersey Boy from getting to the top. His original mixes which are mostly tech and progressive house, have been making their way in his sets. He is focusing on vocals in his work and one day hopes to make a track with Haley from Paramore. Setting his goals high, he hopes to be signed by one of the big labels like Size or Spinnin. You can see Sevag every Saturday at Mister East, and he is also no stranger to Lavo in NYC and HQ Nightclub at Revel in AC.

Some of the tracks that Sevag played during his set are big room bangers and crowd pleasers including:

  • Jose Nunez & Antranig – Check This Out (Original Mix)
  • Roger Sanchez – Troubleman (Original Mix)
  • My Digital Enemy – Got Raw (Original Mix)
  • Prok & Fitch, The Cube Guys – Don’t Go (Original Mix)
  • Mark Knight – Your Love (Original Mix)

Dancing in your seats yet? Well you’re about to experience what I experienced at Mister East just by reading about how amazing Sultan+Ned Shepard’s performance was on this amazing night. Not to mention, we had one extra hour of the dynamic duo’s talents to experience (thank you daylight savings time!). These two aren’t strangers to NJ since they frequent HQ at Revel in AC, but this was their first time at Mister East. The event was SOLD OUT none the less, so how is that for their first time at this venue? Pretty incredible, I say.

Sultan+Ned Shepard are known for their hits “Call My Name” feat Nadia Ali, “No Good” their collaboration Fedde Le Grand and their original “Walls”. From start to finish they kept the crowd dancing, hyped and surprised. Looking down from the booth the club was jam packed but people really didn’t care about the lack of space to dance. From David Guetta, to Calvin Harris to Don Diablo, just when you thought you would stop dancing a little to catch your breath, the next beat to drop made you more hyped than before.

Here are some of the tracks they played for us that night:

  • Taryn Manning Feat. Sultan+Ned Shepard: Send me Your Love (Original Mix)
  • Lykke Li: I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix)
  • Calving Harris Feat. Example: We’ll Be Coming Back (R3hab EDCNY Remix)
  • Don Diablo Feat. Alex Clare & Kelis: Give It All
  • La Fuente & SL8: Fancy Fair (Original Mix)
  • David Guetta Feat. Taped Rai: Just One Last Time (Hard Rock Sofa Big Room Mix)

After their set I was able to catch up with them for a few minutes and they gave me a lot of insight on what is coming up and what are some of the best experiences that they have had on their musical journeys. Some of the events that they are mostly excited about are the festivals they are going to perform at in Chile and Colombia. They also shared with me that Tomorrow World was an amazing experience and the crew there did an amazing job for it being the first year.I tried to see what other big things these two were up to but I couldn’t get them to give me a complete inside scoop on New Years. It’s okay, it’s Sultan+Ned and it is going to be mind blowing!

And for my tri state area residents, they will be coming back to the New York area on November 27th at Webster Hall and check this out, they are doing a giveaway for two all access passes to hang out with them backstage at their show and to see how they experience each and every show they are a part of. It is the “All These Roads” competition and make sure you #alltheseroads #ontheroadto (what road are you taking on your life?). The most creative post (on Twitter, Vine, IG, or Facebook) will get the sick prize of the all access passes to hang out with them.

Sevag and Sultan+Ned Shepard really know how to put on an amazing show. I cannot express how excited I still am from how amazing both sets were. When you get a chance, you need to get out to Mister East to support Sevag and witness the greatness I did when he is in that DJ booth doing what he does best. Also, the next time Sultan+Ned Shepard are in town make sure you check them out. These guys are ready to take over the world with their explosive energy and original tracks that are coming out.
