Review: Cirque du M.E. at Mister East 03/30/13 by Marisa Bianco

Try to imagine a psychedelic circus was in town for the night, except instead of being under a tent, you were in a very sexy, upscale nightclub watching this aesthetic entertainment set to the hottest house music imaginable. That was the scene on Saturday night, March 30th for “Cirque du M.E.” at Mister East nightclub in Roselle, NJ.

Mister East was in full swing when I was escorted to the VIP balcony around 11pm. In fact, they had not one, but two swings hanging from the ceiling, complete with bunny cocktail waitresses swinging and twirling from them. Looking down into the crowd on the dance floor, all of the tables were filled with attractive people dancing and being served bottles with sparklers.

There was a circus performer on a pedestal, covered in multi-colored veils, giving a trippy show for those standing next to him. Stilt walkers danced through the crowd and put on a show. Even the Mister East-er bunny made an appearance during the night on the stage they had set up in the middle of the dance floor. Mannequins were suspended from the ceiling, posed mid-jump through hoops and atop the speakers as if they were about to leap down into the crowd and start dancing. Along with long crystal chandeliers, there were funky orbs and spheres with spikes hung from the ceiling, illuminated by the multicolored spot lights. It was visually mesmerizing and unlike any club I’d ever been to.

DJ B. Original was spinning for the first half of the night while the room filled up quickly. B.Original and studio partner Damir Pushkar recently remixed Mr.V’s infamous “Fire La Chocha” for Sole Channel music. It hit #1 on the Traxsource Nu Disco top 100 charts. While Mister East was becoming quite the circus, B.Original kept the music just as entertaining with some great selections including:

• Joy & Happiness – Daniel Steinberg
• True – Monte
• The Jam – Jobe
• Up & Away – Rob Mirage
• Mama Say – Toby Montana & Dan Caster

By the time DJ Sevag came on at 12:30, the club, as big as it is, was so packed it must have been at capacity. You could constantly overhear “this is my favorite song!” after nearly every song Sevag dropped by several people in the VIP area. He played a nice variety, from “Wild One,” to a remix of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” to Showtek’s mega banger, “Cannonball.”

The waitresses were in full playboy bunny costumes, complete with rabbit ears, doing a great job making sure that everyone’s needs were met. Bottles of champagne and Ciroc continuously made their way around the club being delivered from table to table. It was obvious that VIP service at Mister East was the way to go, and there were smiling and satisfied patrons everywhere you looked. Even NFL celeb Ahmad Bradshaw, who was enjoying the night in the VIP section, came into the booth with his bodyguard and entourage to meet Sevag and hang out.

Some other great tracks Sevag included in his set were:

• Muzzaik & Dave Martin – Let’s Go
• Daddy’s Groove & Cryogenix – Vertigo w/ Empire of the Sun – We Are The People
• Dannic – Clobber
• Nervo & Hook N Sling – Reason (Sevag Remix)
• GTA, Henrix, DigitalLAB – Hit It w/ EOTS – Walking on a Dream
• Sandro Silva & Quintino Vs MC Ambush – Epic (MAKJ Edit)
• Jewelz & Scott Sparks – Toxic Rush w/ Florence + The Machine – You Got The Love
• Thomas Gold – Sing2Me w/ R.E.M. – Losing My Religion

Overall, the “Cirque du M.E.” event was a huge success and I will absolutely be back for more. B. Original did a great job getting the night started on the right foot with music that perfectly accompanied the various performances around the club. Sevag took everyone to house music heaven with flawless transitions and heart-pumping beats, executed with true craftsmanship. Now I can see why everyone is always raving about how great Saturday nights at Mister East are with this incredible resident DJ.

This Saturday, April 6th, Sevag will be back alongside guest DJ, Roger Sanchez. Judging by the amount of people that showed up this past Saturday night, including the sold out tables, my advice would be to make a reservation now before it’s too late. You can stay updated with M.E. events by following them on the Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram links below. They’ve got some exciting things coming up. Trust M.E.
