Preview: Electric Zoo 2011 @ Randalls Island NYC Sept 2-4

Last year I attended Electric Zoo for the first time and had no idea what to expect. All I knew was that it would be two days full of my favorite artists, and very long, hot days, dancing with tens of thousands of other EDM fans from around the world. 48-hours later I was exhausted, deaf, sore, dirty, had no voice left from screaming, but saw at least a dozen of the world’s best DJs. I could hardly wait to go back again next year!

A few of the DJs I saw last year included Gareth Emery, Afrojack, ATB, Dirty South, Kaskade, Axwell, Avicii, Laidback Luke, Chris Lake, Fedde Le Grand, Wolfgang Gartner, and Steve Aoki. I was running all over the fields trying to catch clips of some of their overlapping sets, but I couldn’t miss anyone.

The three sets that stand out to me the most because they were my absolute favorites and loved their entire sets were definitely Avicii, Kaskade, and Axwell. This was my first Avicii show, less than a year ago, and now the next show I see will be my 8th show. He’s got my vote for one of the top DJs in the world, and I think everyone else shares my view.

The excitement for this year’s Electric Zoo has been building since the first early bird tickets went on sale in December. The event was changed to three glorious days instead of two, and the headliners (Tiesto, David Guetta, and Armin van Buuren) had everyone buzzing on Facebook and Twitter non-stop. Then, to make matters even better, Electric Zoo announced that new measures would be taken to prevent the dirt/dust issues in the tents so we wouldn’t be quite so dirty. Talk about winning!!!

So far, this year’s lineup also includes huge names like Afrojack, Benny Benassi, Sander van Doorn, AN21 & Max Vangeli, Alesso, Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery, Diplo, EDX, Hardwell, Skrillex, Porter Robinson, and many more. Someone asked me recently if I was attending this year’s Electric Zoo festival and my response was simple: I wouldn’t miss it if I were in the hospital… I’d bust out of there in my hospital gown and go dance with the rest of the zoo animals. This event is the highlight of my year, and I can’t wait to see this year’s lineup, as well as more that have yet to be announced, I’m sure.

With less than five weeks to go until the big event over Labor Day weekend, I’ve got my earplugs, hand sanitizer, and camera ready to go! You won’t want to miss these three days of EDM heaven. See you there!
