As an artist, VASSY has conquered the DJ world with her authentic sound that has lead to a No. 1 hit with David Guetta & Showtek on their track “BAD,” ultimately achieving 7 double platinum and gold certifications with over a billion streams. Her 2015 collaboration with Tiësto & KSHMR on their track “Secrets” proved to be another No. 1 dance smash in 20 counties, which also became double platinum, reigned atop the Billboard Club Charts and Beatport charts, and scored an IDMA Award for Best Electro Progressive/House track. VASSY joined forces again in 2016 with Tiësto who co-produced her standalone single “Nothing To Lose,” which quickly vaulted into the Top 10 Billboard Dance/Mix Show Charts and peaked at No. 1 on U.S. Dance Radio and No. 1 in the Billboard Dance Club songs, within the first 3 months of its release.
Not only is she a multi-platinum artist, VASSY has always prioritized her philanthropic work with charity groups and civil rights organizations. She has dedicated three years in teaching music at AVIVA –a teenage safe house orphanage in Los Angeles– and ran music workshops in detention centers in Australia. She is an active equal-rights ambassador for the NOH8 campaign, a spokesperson for environmental organization Green IT, works with Studio Samuel Foundation to help girls in Ethiopia, volunteers at Skid Row Housing Trust, and supports youth through Playground of Dreams. Be it through her music and volunteerism giving back to the communities, VASSY’s goal is to inspire people to fight for their dreams. Whether she’s singing, writing, or producing music, VASSY has an immensely credible portfolio to admire. We had the opportunity to interview this lovely artist and talk more about herself and her most recent Armada collaboration with Afrojack called “Lost.”
EDMNYC: Your most recent Armada collaboration with Afrojack is called “Lost.” Tell us a bit about the tune.
VASSY: It’s about getting LOST to find LOVE :) We started the idea over a year ago in Amsterdam when I was there… we have always wanted to collaborate on something and this was the one.
EDMNYC: How was working with Afrojack?
VASSY: The best! He’s very talented and cool to work with….
EDMNYC: How is being a female artist in a male dominated industry?
VASSY: It has its challenges but also is a positive…doesn’t get in the way for me.
EDMNYC: As busy as you are in the music industry, you have always prioritized your philanthropic work charity groups and civil rights organizations. How do you manage to balance your time?
VASSY: I like my personal normal life. I don’t live in the industry life, I like to make music and perform it for the fans. Outside of that I have a normal life and love to give back when I can. It’s good for the soul and for others.
EDMNYC: Whether it be through your music or through your volunteerism giving back to the communities, your goal is to inspire people to fight for their dreams. Has this always been a major goal of yours?
VASSY: Yes, it has. It’s been my driving force….Plan A only no Plan B…YOU make your dreams come true. It’s up to YOU…. I like to empower others to live in their dreams too.
EDMNYC: 2018 is quickly approaching. What do you have in store for the new year?
VASSY: Lots of new VASSY goodies for you all ;-)))
We are looking forward to see what you have in store for us VASSY. In the meantime we will continue to jam out to “Lost.”
