Tech Takeover: October NYC 2012

It's hard not to be overwhelmed when you think about all the the events coming up in the next few months starting with October. There's an exceptional amount of great shows coming up aside from the ones every other source seems to be covering. I'm here to tell you the important stuff. If you're looking to have a completely different month with a variety of music, utilize the following events I'm about to go through.

Lately it seems more and more people are simply unaware of the roots of dance music originating from two of the most important genres, house and techno. The excuse of every DJ playing a pre recorded set or the same set as a prior one is nonsense because there are many shows coming up I promise you won't leave feeling that way. Also no person should settle for less, you shouldn't have to beg for a set in which you won't be able to ID a single track. I guess you could call this the opposite of the norm, mainstream. Every event everyone else is focusing on, take a step back and try something different. Take a journey on the tech path if you dare and you'll soon find out it's a great one.

10/4 Thu – CLR – Tommy Four Seven & Monoloc @ Cielo - Tickets

For some of you who are unaware this marks an extremely special day for Cielo. CLR [Create.Learn.Realize], the label of mister Chris Liebing, is celebrating its 13th anniversary this year by hosting two events. One of the events is this one in New York City at Cielo, where the label will simultaneously be launching their new residency there. This is a great place for Tommy Four Seven and Monoloc to play at. Tommy Four Seven is typically found in dark and raw environments where he's been filling the void between house and techno for the last eight years. Monoloc on the other hand was also was just in New York City two weeks ago at the Basic Septechno weekly parties and absolutely killed it. Monoloc has more of the dark, minimal style and has released some great tracks on CLR recordings.

10/6 Sat – Ibiza United presents: Black Festival @ Governors Island - Tickets
10/7 Sun- Ibiza United presents: White Festival @ Governors Island - Tickets

Next up is the 2012 Black and White festival brought to you by Ibiza United. The first day is completely stacked with the lineup consisting of Jamie Jones, Carl Craig, Derrick Carter, Butch, Antonio Piacquadio, Sleepy & Boo, Elon. All of these DJs were great choices for this festival. Only true tech heads will be quite interested to go which will make for a nice crowd and day on the island. As for day two, it needs no introduction as the annual Jonathan Peters classics party will take over for the white day of the festival. Although Governors Island is typically not the ideal place for JP classics parties because they're usually in a club environment. One should definitely go if you've never been to one of his classics parties. It truly makes you realize how the sound of dance music has changed and is definitely a great experience.

10/6 Sat – Nicole Moudaber and Victor Calderone at Pacha NYC - Tickets

Nicole Moudaber and Victor Calderone have been working together for a while. To know they'll be hitting the decks all in the same night is complete madness. Their latest EP The Journey Beginsis comprised of two phenomenal tracks. One of the tracks is “Vertical Limits” and the other “The Journey Begins”. Get familiar with those two tracks because I'm positive they'll be floating around in techno sets for quite some time. There are certain tracks that will never get old and “The Journey Begins” is one of them. Check out Nicole Moudabers essential mix if you're not too familiar with her sound, she is simply relentless.

10/11 Thu – Dance Here Now Presents: Pirupa @ Cielo - Tickets

As we head into the next week, Pirupa, the italian DJ makes his way to Cielo. Pirupa's “Partybuy generic viagra cheap

class=”alignright” title=”pirupa” src=”http://edmnyc.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/pirupa1.jpg” alt=”" width=”200″ height=”146″ /> Non Stop” track has hit the dance floor literally all over the world. It's one of those tracks you want to just keep moving to and one you could listen to on a loop. Some people are not completely familiar with him but in the years to come he is one to watch out for. Pirupa’s tracks are regularly supported and played by Pete Tong, Luciano, Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin and Loco Dice just to name a few. Check out his latest mix on Defected in the House Radio Show.

10/12 Fri – Erick Morillo @ Pacha - Tickets

This is co-owner and resident DJ Erick Morillo's annual welcome home party for Pacha NYC as he
spends most of his summers in Ibiza. Now Morillo has always been a favorite of my own personally but there are two odd occurrences with this event. One being that Pacha has made it 19+ and two Morillo hasn't been playing his usual dirty house set like he used to. I have hope that he will bring us some beats home from Ibiza and show us the old side of him.

Regardless if you've never witnessed a Morillo set live it should be on your to do list. The passion and emotion in his face the entire time he DJs, which is usually till extremely late, says it all. Needless to say I'm excited to see the boss return home!

10/13 Sat – Sasha @ TBA - Tickets

This is like the mega event of all days for the month of October. Sasha left me speechless after an astonishing performance in Sunday School only just a month ago at Electric Zoo. This is an exclusive Blkmarket party at a secret location, need I say more?

10/26 Fri – Sensation America – Mr. White, Dennis Ferrer, Fedde Le Grand, Joris Voorn, Nic Fanciulli
10/27 Sat – Sensation America – Mr. White, Danny Tenaglia, Fedde Le Grand, 2000 and One, Mark Knight

Sensation American has cause a bit of chaos as of late after announcing the full lineup. Most people were extremely shocked with what the lineup turned out to be. Once I had first figured out DannyTenaglia was on the lineup for the second night prior to the announcement I knew they were going down a different path. Typically the idea of sensation is that were all wearing the same thing, white in this case and more importantly we're all listening to the same DJ.

The lineup for both nights is incredible as each DJ for brings something of their own to the table. Joris Voorn and Nic Fanciuli go back to back all the time at various shows around the world, it would be pretty cool to see it happen at Sensation. There are so many other events going on this weekend if these aren't you're “type” of DJs simply sell your ticket and go to another event, it's that simple.

10/31 Wed -Marco Carola @ Ciprianis – 55 Wall Street, NY – (Ticket link coming soon)

Another DJ who left me nearly speechless in Sunday School, Marco Carola. I can't express how lucky we are to have some of these amazing DJs come back to play in NY only within a one to two month time span. This past summer Marco Carola has been destroying the terrace at Amnesia in Ibiza for its famous Music On events from all hours of the night to late morning.

This time Music On is going global starting with our lovely city of New York. The expectations for this night are extremely high and I know Carola will deliver. Talk about a perfect haunted Halloween for this event where “It's all about the music”.

That concludes the October line-ups for our tech take over. I hope after reading this you've figured out why it was titled a “tech takeover”. There are no signs of slowing down with future lineups for the months coming! Each month I'll do my best to create this list for the weekends of the month so you don't miss out on all the different events going on.
