Review: Matt Goldman & LibraNINE at Santos Party House 07/21/12 by Nicole Pace

Everyone loves great house music, an awesome vibe, and not having to break the bank with expensive ticket prices or drinks, right? Well that’s the best way to summarize in one sentence what went down at Santos Party House on Saturday, July 21. EDMNYC proudly partnered with Electric Beach to present Matt Goldman with LibraNINE for a night of great music with great people.

For this special night, I brought along fellow EDMNYC writer and photographer, Rocketpants Jon, and my right hand man, Steve. We arrived at Santos to see a huge crowd of people waiting to enter the club at around 11:30pm. Inside, the main room was already busy with sexy people everywhere you turned, from the dance floor to the VIP areas. Even the basement, which we stopped in briefly, had a nice amount of people dancing to a deep house bass line.

LibraNINE was on deck first, playing what I consider, the perfect opening set. The volume was just right for quick conversations, and the tracks were great because they had everyone dancing but weren’t an attempt to outshine the headliner. This, as I’ve said countless times before, is the right way to open a floor. LibraNINE didn’t stick to a plain tech house set, but rather built the set from the beginning to end with a progression of different styles of house music. At first I didn’t know many of the selections, but then heard a few familiar ones in the middle. By the end, he had a nice electro house buildup to lead into Goldman’s start at 1am. The dance floor at this time was absolutely packed, and not one person stood still. LibraNINE did an incredible job working those CDJs for three hours, and I loved every minute of it. This guy has a ton of talent and I’m really looking forward to seeing him spin again!

When Ferry Corsten’s “Feel It” played, we were all definitely feeling it as Matt Goldman stepped up to take over. One of the first tracks he played was Deniz Koyu vs.Eric Prydz-“Bong Jesus”, which was recently featured on Tiesto’s Club Life #275. For the next three hours that we stayed at Santos, Goldman had a great selection of house favorites and several of his own mashups. I’m not sure how he didn’t get nervous, but shortly after his set started, the hip-hop legend, Grandmaster Flash, joined Goldman in the booth to watch him spin and enjoy the music. It was around this time that we heard Goldman’s own mashup, “WTF Flashback” (Nicky Romero vs. Calvin Harris).

Everyone at Santos had a great night. Looking around the club, all you could see were smiles and arms pumping in the air. Goldman looked like he was having a great time too, dancing and mouthing the words to the lyrics. His transitions were smooth as could be, which I guess is expected of a DJ who has opened for Tiesto, Avicii, Kaskade, and Afrojack, among others. Matt Goldman is also a resident DJ at Club Glow in DC, and has upcoming shows with shows with Bass Kleph on 8/9 and Chuckie on 8/30.

Overall, this was an awesome night. If you haven’t been to Santos yet, you’ve been missing out. Thanks to Electric Beach, the staff at Santos Party House, and everyone who came out to support EDMNYC. We’re all looking forward to more great events like this in the near future.
